about
Chateau Chateau’s latest single, I Don’t Love You Anymore, is an upbeat indie-pop song about an abusive relationship. While writing the lyrics, Bleu turned to an old diary full of quotes and emails from, and dozens of unsent letters to, her dad. Written with hate fror being gay, tattooed, independant, and strong willed, those emails set up the back-and-forth call-and-response of the choruses, recapturing the emotions behind fighting for a relationship that has already drowned - Exhaustion, disappointment, despair. However, the song is set to energetic guitar-driven riffs and Beach Boys-esque harmonies, transforming the narrative into one of uplifting triumph.
lyrics
You used to love me like the sun
You never let go of that grudge
You used to love me like those jeans you wore in 1981
And girl you’re so beautiful
But those crazy eyes they match your soul
I know you thought you had me controlled
With just a wink and a smile that glows
If I could turn around, take that time back
But we can’t have it all, isn’t that right?
You said,
I don’t love you anymore
Grow up, dumb whore, resent me more
Waste of space, I know more
Take a long look in the mirror, the fault is yours
And I was like,
God damn, lighten up, you’re fucking brutal buttercup
Do you ever stop to think what I do doesn’t revolve around you?
It’s just a little tattoo
Convince your friends you’ve really made some progress
Don't they know that, yeah, you’re feeling so blessed
Maybe you should try to learn some respect
But I know you, you really couldn’t care less
Hypocrites don't grow, baby don't you know?
You love to hate me, oh, you’ll never let it go
Somehow you remember shit I haven't done
With your hand to my head while you're holding a gun
If I could turn around, take that time back
But we can’t have it all, isn’t that right?
If i could turn around and take all that effort back
But life isn't fair, don't you know that?
You said,
I don't love you anymore
Grow up, dumb whore, resent me more
Waste of space, I know more
Take a long look in the mirror, the fault is yours
And I was like,
God damn, lighten up, you’re fucking brutal buttercup
Do you ever stop to think absolutely nothing I do revolves around you?
It’s a fucking catholic tattoo
Now that it’s all said and done
I know you’ll hate to hear this song
But I’ll make one thing crystal clear
The pain you’ve caused has stuck for years
I thought you’d be there by my side
For the rest of my life
Here I am alone, growing up on my own
Your words always on replay, ever since you went away
And now you love to say
I don't love you anymore
Grow up, dumb whore, resent me more
Waste of space, I know more
Take a long look in the mirror, the fault is yours
And I was like,
God damn, lighten up, you’re fucking brutal buttercup
Do you ever stop to think absolutely nothing I do revolves around you?
It’s a fucking catholic tattoo
